Term 1 - Roman Painted House Trip
Our Year 3/4 children had a fantastic time visiting the Roman Painted House in Dover. The trip gave us the opportunity to bring our Romans topic to life and explore what Roman Britain was really like.
The children enjoyed seeing the remains of the Roman house, learning about the beautiful painted walls and discovering how the Romans lived. They were able to use their history knowledge to ask thoughtful questions and make links to what we have been learning in class.
It was a brilliant experience and a great way to deepen our understanding of Roman life in our local area.

“I enjoyed the shields and swords.”
“I liked the middle part of the Roman Painted House, which was the original building”
Term 1 - Kenning Poems
Our first writing task this week was creating kenning poems linked to our Romans topic. We explored how kennings use short, descriptive phrases to give clues about a person or object without naming it directly.
The children created their own kennings about Roman soldiers, carefully choosing powerful verbs and nouns to describe their actions and characteristics.
Here are some examples of our fantastic work!
