Kearsney Abbey Trip

Here is a Sway presentation about our trip to Kearsney Abbey.

In English, we have been learning the story 'The Great Kapok Tree'. This week, we created our own characters to go into the story. We had a look at character descriptions and use coloured pencils to identify the features, some of which we used in our own writing! This week, we will be writing our own versions of the story.

In maths, we have been practising our arrays to help us to solve multiplication and division problems. We are then going to move onto written methods which will help with longer numbers.

Big Idea

As scientists, we will become aware of plants in our local area, their features and what enables them to grow in specific environments. Our studies will lead us to ask ‘What does a plant need to grow?’ Using the style of artist Maria Sybilla Merian will enable us to make accurate representations of local plant life. As Mathematicians and Storytellers, we will be applying our knowledge, skills and understanding of light when forming Venn diagrams and role playing a story using puppets. Thinking scientifically, our explorations of light and shadow will provide us with an understanding of factors that affect shadow formation.

Enchanted Woodland

We have started our new topic of Enchanted Woodland - we are learning all about plants and the different plants of them. Each part has a special function which we have started to investigate. We are also investigating the needs of a plant, and have put cress seeds in soil under a range of conditions, including not enough water, too much water, no light and a low temperature. Over the coming weeks, we will be monitoring their progress.
