Term 4

Learning Landing

On Tuesday, we returned to Dover Castle to be a tour guide to our parents. We explained all the defences and visited the Keep. We really enjoyed the Under Siege area with the trebuchet. Our parents were very impressed with our knowledge.

Thank you to everybody who supported us on this trip. It was great to see so many of you learning from your children.

PSHE

In PSHE we have been thinking about the different relationships we have, both healthy and unhealthy. We used the story ‘The Squirrels who squabbled’ to highlight how relationships can change and what we need to do when this happens.

English

In English we used figurative language to create a character description of Grendel. When finished we used the success criteria to mark our work and know what we needed to edit in.

Dover Castle

We have also created non-chronological reports about the defences of Dover Castle, which we will use as guidebooks when we return to the castle.

We have been working on decimals this term. We have made them with counters and then answered questions in our workbooks.

We have started writing our own non-chronological guidebooks about the formidable castle, using technical language.

The Great Tower,

‘It was built by Henry the Second to fortify Dover in 1180 and was the most expensive castle built then!

‘It was built on the cliffs so that any invaders can be spotted. ‘

‘It is 100 foot tall.’

‘Inside there was a room that looks like it was in the medieval times.’

‘We even saw where they went to toilet!’

‘The moat is a dry moat and a double moat.’

‘It was built to defend the castle.’

‘It was built in the 12th Century.’

As we went around, we drew the fortifications that we saw.  We learnt a lot about the different defences.

Music

In music we have been investigating what a chord is and used the glockenspiels to work out the chord of E, A  and C.
