Welcome to the webpage for Thomas Class!
Our teacher is Mrs Belchem and our TA is Mrs Salter!

Term 4
Frampton Farm
We had such a special morning at Frampton Farm. We had the opportunity to feed a range of animals on the farm and learn more about them. We even saw 3 week old piglets who were so tiny and cute! All of us were really open minded and tried feeding all the animals, even when we felt a little nervous. It was such a wonderful, fun trip!

Staying Safe
In PSHE this term we thought about how to keep ourselves safe in a range of different scenarios such as crossing the road and online. We worked in groups to think about what we would do in different situations to keep ourselves safe. Our overview was that we should always tell a safe and trusted adult.

Forest School
For our Landing, we visited forest school to make bird feeders. We used pinecones and lard to hide seeds to put out at home. We then went to the top field to see what different types of birds we could see. We tally marked the different types – the most frequent were seagulls and magpies!

Term 3
Lift Off
There has been a tragic event overnight. We became detectives to see what information we could find out. Working together as detectives, we discovered that there had been a huge fire which started on Pudding Lane in 1666. We made notes and now have an idea about our learning for the term.

English
In our English lessons we imagined what it may have been like for a variety of different people during the Great Fire of London. We re enacted using masks and played different roles. These roles then helped us with our diary entry writing.

Sketching
During art this term, we focussed on our sketching skills using pencil and charcoal. We sketched St Paul’s Cathedral, focussing on the thickness of the lines. During Forest School we even made our own Charcoal!

Forest School
We really enjoyed our Forest School experience this term. We helped Mr Trenowden move wood chippings from the carpark – this took a lot of collaboration! We explored the Forest School area and also enjoyed a hot chocolate around the fire. It was a great day.

Love
We thought about love and why it is so important to us. We linked it with caring and forgiveness for PSHE and made someone special a heart. Aren’t they lovely!

Term 2
Turner and Margate Exploration
To start Term 2, we went on an adventure to Margate via the minibuses. We went on an exploration around the seafront, following maps and looking at different landmarks to help. We also looked out to sea and imagined we were the famous artist and explorer ‘JMW Turner’. We imagined what it must have been like for him and why he chose Margate for his landscape drawings.

Watercolour Paintings
Following on from our lift off, we used watercolours to made our own landscape paintings. Using knowledge of Turner’s artwork techniques, we imagined we were Amelia Earhart, a famous female explorer who had travelled across the ocean and saw Hawaii on the horizon. From this viewpoint, and the knowledge from our learning about her, we painted our own island views from above.

Children in Need
This term saw us celebrate Children in Need. We took part in a danceathon in the hall where we learnt a range of movements and steps from the ‘Strictly’ Team. We also coloured Pudsey Bear pictures and wore yellow. We had a great day!

Forest School
We took part in Forest School again this term and focussed on the artwork we completed earlier in the term. Using natural resources we made our own paints. We used tools to crush chalk and charcoal before mixing with oil to make our own natural paints. Using these we then painted our own pictures using our fingers as tools.
To finish the session, we sat around a campfire and roasted marshmallows – we had a great time!

Polar Express Day
We worked so hard this term on our English writing about The Polar Express with some fantastic descriptions and storylines. To celebrate this, we held our own Polar Express Day where we came to school in our pjs, collected our Golden tickets, wrote a letter to Santa, sequenced the story, watched the film and even had a cup of hot chocolate. It was an amazing day!

Term 1
Lift Off
Our topic this term was ‘Healthy Living’. To kick start our topic, we took part in a range of activities which made us think about what it means to be healthy. We were lucky to have Adele from Once Upon the Mat come and lead a Yoga session focussed on staying healthy. We then tried some different fruits and vegetables and smelt some bath salts to think about how these may help us relax.

Teeth Brushing
We learnt about how important it is to keep our teeth clean and healthy. We were given a set of disgusting teeth, a toothbrush and clean water. We then brushed the teeth for 2 minutes (using a countdown) to try and get them as clean as we could.

Forest School
We were given the opportunity to attend Forest School with Mr Trenowden. For a lot of us, it was our first opportunity to go and we had great fun! We rolled down banks, climbed trees, built dens and made mud pies in the mud kitchen! Mr Trenowden got us looking for ‘troll bogies’ to light some fires and we played games in teams using our senses to help. We had such a great time and can’t wait to go again soon!

Healthy Meal
To finish our topic, we used everything we had learnt to make a healthy pasta salad. We tested ingredients(cucumbers, tomatoes, pepper, carrot), chose our favourites, designed our meal, made it and evaluated. We were trusted to use sharp knives to slice, dice, chop and grate. We really enjoyed our meals and many of us have said we would love to make it again at home!
