Learning lift off – Year 6 : The Hawthorne Trenches

Year 6 had the special treat of augmenting our learning on World War 1 with a trip to Hawthorne Trenches. In the idyllic Kent countryside, we visited the incredibly accurate reconstruction of trenches based on the Somme battlefields 100 years ago. With primary resources, we explored the latrine, cookhouse and the infirmary as we navigated our way through a maze of German and British trenches. Finally, we all climbed the ladders over the top and charged into No Man's Land. This was an incredible experience that will be invaluable in our studies this term.
