Welcome to Year 5 Haring

It has been fantastic to welcome the children back to Year 5 Haring. We have had a brilliant start to the year and it has been lovely to see everyone settling in, making new friendships and showing a great attitude towards their learning.

Term 1 - Haring Class Visit Betteshanger

Haring Class had an amazing day at Betteshanger! The children were incredible throughout the day and were a credit to the school.

Cycling

Miss Critcher was impressed that we had 18 cyclists in our class – more than ever before! What an achievement. We went on a lovely bike ride around the park and were even able to have a go on some of the ramps. The children showed great confidence and determination throughout.

The children who didn't ride bikes had lots of fun in the adventure area, playing The Floor is Lava. They had a fantastic time climbing, balancing and working together to complete the challenge.

Archery

We also had a go at archery using real bows and arrows. The children wore special arm guards and listened carefully to the instructions before taking aim. Some children even managed to get very close to the bullseye – what an achievement!

Orienteering

To end the day, we went orienteering around the park to find hidden markers. It was a little trickier than we first thought! Miss Arthur's group managed to find an impressive 9 out of 10 markers, while Miss Critcher's group found 6 out of 10. The children worked brilliantly as a team, helping each other to read the maps and search for clues.

What a great day and experience for Haring Class! We are so proud of how the children behaved throughout the trip and the enthusiasm they showed when trying new activities.

Term 1 - English

In English, we have been exploring poetry inspired by 6 Ways to Look at the Moon. We have been learning how similes and metaphors can help create powerful images in the reader’s mind. Using the poem as a model, the children chose their own object from space and created imaginative poems filled with figurative language. We have been really impressed by their creativity and the ambitious vocabulary they have used in their writing.

Term 1 - Earth and Beyond

We have kick-started our Earth and Beyond topic with an exciting learning lift-off. The children worked collaboratively to decorate the planets using tissue paper before creating our own Solar System. It was great to see them sharing ideas, working as a team and beginning to explore the wonders of space. We are looking forward to finding out even more about our universe over the coming weeks.
