Lantern Making
Wow! What an amazing and fun packed day we had on Friday in year 5! We were visited by Dover Foundry, a local group of artists, who helped us make our very own star lanterns! As part of Dover’s annual Winter Light Up parade, Kusama and Haring class were invited to make their very own star lanterns. We used a natural material called withy, as well as a special kind of tissue paper to make the stars. The children were respectful and polite to our visitors, showing many of our school values, including the Aspirational Ant and Respectful Rabbit. We certainly needed to be Open Minded Octopus as the task was tricky and we had to focus in order to produce the best star we could. We certainly lived up to our Kusama class moto of ‘Be Awesome, Be Amazing, Be Your Best Self!’
The parade itself will take place on the 6th December in Dover, and the children have been invited to collect their stars and take part in the light up parade. A great local community event, which we hope as many children and their families can attend. Further details on the parade will be sent out nearer to the time.

Learning Lift Off Term 2
An exciting day for Kusama class today, as we became detectives!

1. Our day started with a story on the Priory Fields playing field, but it soon became obvious to us all that something was wrong!
As we looked around the field, we could see some strange items. The children rushed to see what they could find. We found:
- A handwritten notes
- An old fashioned pistol
- A blood stained handkerchief
- A three pointed hat
- A black mask
- A leather pouch full of gold coins.
The children were very excited and started to think about what this could all mean.
2. We took pictures of the items and added them to our Creative Curriculum books. WE discussed what each could mean and came to the conclusion that something had happened at Priory Fields, some type of crime! But what? Who was involved? When did it happen?
3. After our break we had a visitor in class! Mr Duncan Holle, a trader from Paris, France, was a witness to the events of the morning. The children used open questions to find out just what he had seen and to help them solve the mystery.

4. Once we had more details on the crime from our eye witness, we drew wanted posters to help catch the criminal!

5. The children came up with some amazing ideas as to what could have happened. Please ask them to share their theories with you. Amazing detecting and a great Learning Lift Off to start our Crime and Punishment topic for term 2.

Kusama Class’s fabulous adventures at Forest School!
Wow what Adventurous Aardvarks and Open-Minded Octopus we have in Kusama class. Everyone in Kusama class embraced their outside learning day, from bug hunting, tree climbing, habitat building through to mapping the planets of our milky way on the field, we all embraced the opportunity to learn outside! At first some of us were a little nervous to start adventuring, but with encouragement from friends and our Forest School lead Mr Trenowden, we all gradually became more adventurous and exceeded what we thought we would achieve. From getting closer to bugs to climbing to the third branch of the tree, Kusama class adventured beyond their own expectations! Well done everyone, you were all Awesome, Amazing and your Best Selves!
Kusama Class motto; Be Awesome, Be Amazing, Be Your Best Self….. and you certainly were today!
