Term 4

This term, our topic has been The Garden of England and we have loved exploring all things nature, gardens and growing! We learned all about Peter Rabbit and the mischievous adventures he had in Mr McGregor’s garden. We especially enjoyed discussing the trouble Peter caused and thinking about how the story could have ended differently.

Using our imagination, we had a go at changing The Tale of Peter Rabbit and writing our very own versions of the story. The children had fantastic ideas and used super adventurous vocabulary. We definitely have some future authors in Blake Class! Their writing was full of excitement, creativity and wonderful descriptive language.

We also spent time planting and growing our own plants and beans, just like Mr McGregor. The children loved caring for their plants and watching them change and grow each week — some of them grew incredibly tall! Through this, we learned all about what plants need to survive and stay healthy.

Frampton Farm

We had such a special morning at Frampton Farm. We had the opportunity to feed a range of animals on the farm and learn more about them. We even saw 3 week old piglets who were so tiny and cute! All of us were really open minded and tried feeding all the animals, even when we felt a little nervous. It was such a wonderful, fun trip!

Term 3

This term, we have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the Great Fire of London. We discovered how the fire first started in a bakery on Pudding Lane and explored the reasons why it spread so quickly through the city. We learned about what London was like in 1666, including the narrow streets and wooden houses that helped the flames travel rapidly.

To help us understand what life was like at the time, we imagined we were living through the fire ourselves and wrote diary entries describing the sights, sounds and feelings people may have experienced during those frightening days. The children showed fantastic creativity and empathy in their writing.

We also spent time in Forest School where we took part in a fun practical activity inspired by how people fought fires in 1666. We worked together to pass buckets of water down a line, just as people would have done during the Great Fire of London. We quickly realised how difficult and tiring it was, and how many buckets it would have taken to try and stop the fire spreading!
