Term 3

Lift Off

To kick-start our learning this term we became detectives. We were given a book full of evidence highlighting a big tragedy that had occurred. In groups, we used the sources of information to determine what had happened. We were very good detectives as we concluded that a great fire had happened in London back in 1666.

Multiplication

We have been learning what the ‘x’ symbol in maths means. Using rods, we worked out a range of x problems in pairs. Mrs Belchem was very impressed with our knowledge and understanding.

Gymnastics

This term we have been applying all our skills and learning of gymnastics and trying these shapes and balances on apparatus. We are really loving Gymnastics, especially jumping from the high beams.

Shapes

We used lolly sticks to make a range of 2D shapes. We then wrote on post it notes their properties.

Putting out the Fire

For the Great Fire of London we learnt all about the materials the houses were made from, and why the fire spread. We then thought about how the fire was put out. We knew Fire engines weren’t around then and using sources from diary entries, learnt that leather buckets were initially used, being passed down the street. We role played this with houses drawn in chalk on the board outside, and passing a cup down the line to throw onto the fire. Mrs Belchem continued to draw the fire which really stressed us out – even buckets were dropped! This gave us the idea to research other ways in which the fire was put out.

Division

We have been learning about division and understanding that it means sharing equally. We used cubes and circles on our whiteboards to solve a range of problems.
