Residential Trip

Thank you to all parents who entrusted your children to our wonderful residential Kingswood. I truly believe it was a fantastic experience for everyone (including the teachers!). The support and confidence the children gave each other to really challenge themselves on the 3G Swing and the Leap of Faith was extraordinary. The teamwork and collaboration in the building of fires and shelters was beautiful to see. In all the activities, the children showed open-mindedness, happiness, aspiration, respect and adventure. The responsibility racoon that told them to go to bed on time, stop eating sweets, chatting and messing about so they could sleep was a little elusive however!

Pfizer Science Jamboree

Democracy Class enjoyed a spectacular science jamboree at the enormous Pzifer Science Park in Sandwich. With many other schools, we were treated to an extraordinary Airshow firing a hot air balloon with a hairdryer, mixing dry ice with acid and a magic fire trick amongst other amazing experiences. We then split off into mini groups to investigate bugs, bubbleology and some intense research into railway safety. It was a great experience and we were very lucky to be asked!

Botany Bay Trip

Democracy Class finally enjoyed their day trip to Botany Bay! As the sun burned through the wispy morning clouds, we alighted the bus and hit the sand. Primarily, we were there to extend and concretise our knowledge of coasts. This included investigating the bay and headlands; identifying stacks and stumps; and discussing the erosion and weathering of the cliffs. We even tried to measure the cliffs with our clinometers. Having done the hard work, we enjoyed the coast with a good effort into finding shells, building sandcastles, burying people in the sand and paddling. An excellent day of sun, fun and learning!

Clinometers

Democracy have been busy using their angle knowledge to create clinometers. Clinometers are devices used to measure the height of tall structures such as cliffs or in this case (to practise), lampposts. Being collaborative cats helped us to measure accurately the distance at 45 degrees. We hope to use these to measure the cliffs and stacks at Botany Bay, Ramsgate.

Coasts

Democracy have been continuing their excellent work on the Coasts curriculum topic with a science carousel of weathering investigations. We studied, tested and observed physical, chemical and biological weathering. We also looked at the differences between these and erosion. It was great fun and we have learnt so much already in term 6.
